Preface

Funsutra of a Ruined MBA degree is a Blog that narrates story of F.R.I.E.N.D.S.H.I.P., Love and Life based in a B - school in a university Campus. It is an attempt to bring Campus life to Blog Pages. As the name of the Blog suggests, it will not be giving you any insights into MBA but a glimpse about life inside University gates in an average B - School (strictly not from the upper crust). I chose to narrate this story from Rahul’s eyes, the main character lead, who is an unambitious drifter and lands up in this B - School for fun, frolic, friendship, love and off course the MBA degree! The only reasons that he chose MBA is that one, it is in fashion (soon can be announced as India’s National Degree) and second, in hope that it will land up in a job, paying good BUCKS... Statutory Warning - This blog will not guide you anything related to MBA, getting good grades or Placements, however it can teach you how to screw up your MBA . Read at your own Risk!

HOSTEL LIFE | Room Share | Room Mates | University Hostel

Episode6 RooM S8-Buddha Hostel,HSV

I was allotted room number S8 in Buddha Hostel, just 50 steps away from the main gate. It was a triple sharing accommodation ( 3 beds room ) which means that I had to share it with 2 more people from IBS. On first thought, sharing a smelly hostel room with two complete strangers didn’t seem like a very good idea. But, as they say, beggars are not choosers and getting a good apartment would be too heavy for my pocket money check, so there I was – at the door step of room number S8. From the first look, the corridor and the room gave me a very haunted feeling.

With a little uneasiness, I opened the door and peeked in. I saw a messy room with 3 beds and a study table. There were 6 young men in the room, 5 of them were sitting quietly listening carefully to the sixth one who was doing all the talking. The topic of their discussion appeared to be political.  Mr. Brain asked, “yar room to 2 logon k sath share karna tha… ye 6 kahan se aa gaye… hai kaun ye sab?” Before it could wander more, the guy who appeared to be the leader immediately stood up to say hello to me. He was about 6 feet in height, weighed approximately 90Kg’s, had a fair complexion and the most striking feature that I noticed in him was his energy level. He already had all details about me like my name, roll no. etc.

His was a personality that you don’t see too often. He was just a day old in the hostel and everybody on the floor was already acquainted to him. Apparently, even our seniors who were residing in the hostel had started calling him “Harsh Bhai”. This was my first meeting with Harsh… who is the very famous and our very own… Baba ji ! Baba ji, then introduced me to my second roomie, Hemant.

Now let me give you a little background info about Harsh alias Harshen Bhatia. Just like the meaning of his name, he is the little god of happiness. He was an Ayurvedic doctor, a 28 years old Virgin trying his luck in MBA.
Unlike others he was not pursuing MBA for placement; he had come to IBS just to continue his long lasting affair with books and to save himself from Marriage and Family Business (Apple Orchards in UK (upper kotkhai)).
He was always thirsty for Knowledge and loved to gain Knowledge from each and every source on planet. Liquor in any form was his favourite. Approximately 98% of Books and 80% of alcohol bottles in our room belonged to him.

He was our own Munnabhai cum Baba Ramdev at campus who loved spreading awareness about health, wealth and spirituality. During our two years of MBA he was our free source to wisdom of universe. He was a sort of “Glue” or a chemical bond who had the ability to bind the elements of our divided class (divided on basis of political alignment, day-scholars v. hostellers, this city v. that city, etc) with an explosive reactivity. He was always on with a mission to heal the Wounded World, like Mother Teresa's true heir. No matter what problem you have, he always had a solution. His great philosophies helped me and numerous others to cruise through all the difficult situations during those two years.

Time to introduce you to my second room-mate Hemant Sharma.
His and my relationship was very “co-incident”! Coincidentally he was the first guy whom I met in the class the first day and coincidently we gelled instantly, coincidentally we share same taste (like liking girls). Coincidentally he was my roommate and coincidentally we became best friends over the course of time. Our friendship was as strong as “fevicol ka jod” and like “DA VINCI CODE” we both shared dozens of secrets. His parents named him Hemant Sharma although we use to call him Hemu. He was the guy who brought life to every event, a package of positive aura. He was Warm, outgoing, attentive, easy-going and an active participator in whatever it may be (sports, dance, music, daru…KUCH BHI KARVA Lo IssSe)… Let him gulp down a few shots of liquor, and he would transform into the best standup comedian on the planet and would make you laugh, laugh and laugh till you die with pain in your abdomen.

Beside this he considered himself as a born athlete. During his school he had played cricket, soccer, baseball, basketball, hockey, kho kho and the rest. You just name the game and you will discover that he had played that game and has a cupboard full of trophies, folders full of certificates and memories. His mantra for life was “chill maar”.

Now let me take you to Room no. S9, to introduce you to my neighbors – three more idiots !!!
